PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene)

Fine PTFE powder from Convena Polymers

PTFE is the best-known chemically resistant polymer. Only very few chemicals react with PTFE, and it is resistant to oxygen, ozone and UV light. This polymer has excellent thermal and electrical insulation properties and a very low coefficient of friction. Its mechanical strength is lower than that of other high-performance polymers, but can be significantly improved with fillers such as glass fibre, carbon and graphite. PTFE has excellent electrical properties: its dielectric constant (2.1) and dielectric loss factor (0.0002) remain low across a wide range of temperatures and frequencies. PTFE does not burn in an open flame, but decomposes above its continuous operating temperature.

PTFE grades from CONFLON and FLONIO

Examples of PTFE applications:

Apparatus construction and linings, valve linings, films, reinforced high-pressure hoses, isostatically pressed parts, laboratory equipment and accessories, composite bearings and cable coatings. PTFE micropowder is used in lubricants for speciality oils and greases.

Operating temperature: -200 to +260 °C
Melting temperature: +322 to +342 °C

Choosing a PTFE grade

For general compression-moulded stock shapes: Flonio™ S-120 is the general-purpose granular grade.

For fine-cut powder and compounding: Flonio™ S-202 is designed for blending and compounding with fillers and additives.

For compression-moulded billets and thin skived film: Flonio™ S-203 and S-208 are fine-cut grades; S-208 is described for medium and large billets.

For paste extrusion: Teflon™ PTFE 6CX and 6CNX are intended for medium-to-high reduction ratios and thin-wall tubing or wire-and-cable applications. Teflon™ PTFE 62X and 62NX suit high-performance tubing and hose applications, while Teflon™ PTFE 60X is intended for lower reduction ratios, tape, beading and sealing materials.

Frequently asked questions

Does Convena provide PTFE samples?

Samples for Flonio™ S-120, S-202, S-203 or S-208 and for Teflon™ PTFE 6CX / 6CNX, 62X / 62NX or 60X are assessed case by case. State the grade, quantity, processing route and delivery country.

Is there a minimum order quantity for PTFE?

There is no blanket published MOQ for Flonio™ or Teflon™ PTFE. It is confirmed for the requested grade — for example Flonio™ S-120 or Teflon™ PTFE 62X — based on manufacturer packaging, availability and delivery route.

What is the standard packaging for PTFE?

Standard packaging is confirmed for the specific PTFE grade and offered lot. Include the grade, quantity and processing route in your enquiry.

Is PTFE available from stock or against order?

Stock status is checked for the specific grade and requested quantity. Depending on the material, supply may be made from available stock or procured against a confirmed order.

What is the lead time for PTFE?

A fixed lead time is not published because it depends on grade, quantity, stock status, delivery route and any documentation requirements. The lead time is confirmed with the specific offer.

Can Convena confirm the specification for a particular batch?

Yes. A TDS gives typical values; confirmation for the offered or supplied batch is based on available batch-specific documentation, such as a COA, and the applicable TDS, SDS and compliance documents.
